As I child, I remember being fascinated by antique fabrics; I loved the colours, the designs and the textures. Linens were a particular favourite I now recall. I longed to have these gorgeous treasures around me and promised myself that one day I would have them in my own home. In those days, I couldn’t have told you why I loved textiles so much. All I knew was that to me, they were works of art and I’ve never stopped feeling that way about them.
These days of course, my initial passion has been underpinned by the knowledge I’ve acquired over the years. Today, as I fulfil that promise to myself to have these wonderful fabrics in my home, I do so not just because they are beautiful but because I am also filled with awe at the history they represent. When I pick up an antique piece of fabric, I am transported back in time and I appreciate the intricacies of the texture and design that link my modern life with the world our ancestors knew.
Old textiles have a way to warm the soul with their timeless beauty. What I love most is the knowledge that they were once lived with and loved by generations before me. And fortunately for our generation, they’ve aged beautifully. Nothing can create that atmosphere of faded grandeur like the simple passage of time. You can make something look old, but you can never infuse it with a history. There is simply no substitute for a fabric that has had real life pass before it.
Now, one of my greatest pleasures in life is to share my passion with others. My love for fabrics has driven me to source the highest quality hand-woven linens and cloths, printed and embroidered textiles and wonderful passementerie trims from all over Europe, so that I can bring them to kindred spirits who want to express their own unique style and create the perfect look for their homes.
My range of textiles is always vast and accommodates the most rustic of home interior design to the most elaborate and exquisite of decors. One of the most appealing things about textiles is their ability to bridge the gap between past and present. Many of the designs from 100 years ago still hold the same charm and allure as the day they were created. Others simply allow you to create a collection that will be cherished by you and your family’s future generations.
The photographs of the textiles you see on these pages are only a small sample of some of the magical pieces I have acquired over the past few years.
